I decided to start doing week reviews instead of the monthly wrap ups. I feel like this way I can talk more about the books I have read, especially the ones that I feel I don’t want to write a whole review of but still want to say something. Also I can talk a little bit about what’s happening in my life beside the reading. So, let’s get to it!
Books I read this week:
1. Scarlet by Marissa Meyer 4/5 stars
2. Cress by Marissa Meyer 4/5 stars
3. The Shining by Stephen King 3/5 stars
4. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time by Yasutaka Tsutsui 2/5 stars
5. The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson 4/5 stars
6. Getting the Girl by Markus Zusak 2/5 stars
These are all the books I read this week. I’ll be doing a proper review for Scarlet, Cress and The Well of Ascension later next week. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, which I read at the end of the week, is actually a short novel and it was super fast to read, being only about hundred pages long. There was also other short novel called The Stuff Nightmares Are Made Of. I disliked this a lot, it started great and I thought it would be really creepy story but then everything was explained rationally and easily by couple of kids. It just made me feel that it was there because the book needed a little bit more pages so they added this one.
I read The Shining in Finnish. It was translated in Finnish in 1985 so there are some interesting choices of words. For example, the name of the hotel was sometimes translated in Finnish and sometimes not. There were also other small things in the translation that disturbed me as reading and I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it in English. For some reason I couldn’t get the English version from my library and all the newer translations also were not there. I really wanted to read this because of Halloween. I haven’t read that many horror books either so I thought this would be a good place to continue reading that genre. Otherwise I really liked this book and will definitely check out King’s other books too.
I read Getting the Girl today. It was really quick read, only about 200 pages. It’s about Cameron who’s a teenage boy and he starts to go out with his brothers ex-girlfriend. I gave this book only 2 stars because I never felt connected to any of the characters and couldn’t understand “the romance” in this book. I don’t know if I can call it even a romance because right after Cameron’s brother has broken up with this girl, she finds Cameron and tells him that she wants to be with him. At that point Cameron had other crush but it just disappeared when this other girl showed interest in him. Only thing I actually liked this book was his and his sisters interaction. There wasn’t a lot of it but that was nice to read. After I had read this one I realized that it’s part of a series but I can’t really be bothered to read the other books in the series.
I don’t have so much to write about this week. I got five new books from the library that I can’t wait to read (I say that about every book though). Also I did a bookhaul and you can watch it here. It’s a bit long because I got 30 books last month. I’m thinking of waiting for the after Christmas sales to buy some books then before I start my book buying ban. Let’s see how well that goes because I have my birthday this month. I also wrote a post about books that are released in November and that I am anticipating. At the beginning of the week I talked about the review debate that has been going on around booktube and bookblogs and announced that I’ll be doing a book buying ban in the beginning of next year.
I started to read the bind up of the first three books in the Sweep-series by Cate Tiernan. I think it has 14 or 15 books in this series and I have heard lot of good stuff about it so I can’t wait to finish it. The other books I hopefully get to read this month are below in the picture. I am still trying to read all of my library books.
How was your week? Have you read any of these books and which book should I read next after the Sweep- bind up? Tell me on the comments!
